“I was so nervous and scared to be here, but after a few days everyone treats you so good! I overdosed because I was a drug addict and I felt ashamed but all the groups, counseling, staff, and other patients made me feel better about it all. I came in lost, scared, and hopeless and now just 8 days later I’m happy again. I feel healthier already and I am on the right path in life. I’m going to go to AA meetings, and a lot of other support groups once I’m home to stay sober and happy! Thank you all for the help and push to make me a better me!”

“How to over come my depression. I came in not wanting to live but I have came to realize I have so much to live for. I live for my cat, grandma, sisters, friends, and most importantly myself. I no longer wallow in sadness but rather stay positive and motivated.”

“I learned about coping skills and things that help mental health. I learned about the things that can happen if people drink or have substance abuse problems with a mental illness. I was on the fence of attempting suicide. I felt like my life was out of my control. I wanted all the uncertainty to stop. I couldn’t make any of the decisions I needed to. Coming to OBCCD I learned that it’s ok to not know what to do. It’s ok to feel uncertain. I learned coping skills and how to manage my anxiety. I got my meds under control. I feel so much better. The staff was so kind and attentive. They really made all this so much easier.”

“I was at my lowest point in life (college was overwhelming and I felt like a failure) and had never been to a mental hospital before. It was a scary and emotional week for me. However, I got the help I needed and learned a lot about myself. Obviously, I still have my illnesses, but I’m learning to thrive with them. I’ve learned I didn’t want to die, but simply didn’t know how to live. Thank you for all the help you served. I’m blessed”.

What did you learn while you were here? “Ways to cope with my depression.”
“I actually came here thinking I didn’t need help. But once I got here and settled down I took time to think, I needed help. Not only with getting along with people but to help me stop self-harming. When there is a thought in my head about self-harming I know that it’s not worth doing because why would I want to hurt myself. So I learned some coping skills and learned new things about myself. The staff I give a A+ to. They helped me tremendously. I am so glad that I got the help when I did. You know that I would never admit that I needed help. But when I got here so much changed. Make your walls into doors. It was one of the groups that got me saying this.

What did you learn while you were here? “I learned many different coping skills, leisure activities, barriers that would keep you from doing your coping skills or leisure activities, learned about domestic violence, opioid abuse, what your body feels when it is stressed out.”
“I have been in and out of these facilities since the age of 8 years old. I have a problem of asking for help and before coming in here I had been overly stressed and been arguing with my husband due to stress. What got me in here was the cause of, not just drinking alcohol and using marijuana, but also some domestic violence with my husband. After a night of drinking things became verbal, then physical between my husband and I. I want others to know my story and learn from it. Having a good support group and a trusted person to talk to is always important. For a long time I always thought it was a sign of weakness when I sought help, but then I was told by these wonderful people here as Center for Behavioral Health that it is not a weakness at all, but a very good thing for you as a person when you ask for help since you are ensuring your safety, well being and mental health. I have learned so much coming to this facility that will help me when I get out and be able to help me deal with stressful situations. I also used to turn to self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts but being here has taught me better ways to be able to deal with my depression and anxiety.”

I had a amazing experience here. I enjoyed being at the cognitive center. The facility was so nice, understanding, funny, and helpful. They made me feel safe. I met a lot of different people and got to share my story with others. Shorty was my favorite facility member she is so sweet and funny. I want to thank everyone at the center for all their help. Thank you for helping me find myself. – D
