Dear Families,

Spring is coming soon!!! NHC Fort Sanders is hosting a Spring Fling Week of celebration and would like to invite residents and families to help us kick off the Spring Season at our Spring Fling Party on Friday, March 22nd @ 2:00 pm in the Ground Floor Dining Room. Earlier in the week, we will be having an “Eggstravagant Blooms” craft activity on March 20th @ 2:00 pm in the Activity Room. Both events will be hosted by UT Recreational Therapy Intern, Natalie Mummert, and the Recreation/Life Enrichment Dept. To celebrate Easter, NHC Fort Sanders will be having their Holy Week Worship Service on Wednesday, March 27th and an Easter themed Quarterly Birthday Party on Good Friday, March 29th.

NHC Fort Sanders would like to welcome our new NHC Beautician, Avery Buford. Her operation hours are Wednesdays and Fridays, starting @ 9:00 am. Hair appointments can be scheduled through your resident’s Charge Nurse and/or Receptionist. NHC would also like to welcome Volunteers, Pastor Brad Keaton from First Baptist Church of Knoxville who will be providing monthly Sunday Worship Services, and Pet Therapy H.A.B.I.T. Volunteer, Donna Cope who will be bringing her dog “Daisy” to provide pet therapy visits to residents starting in March.

We look forward to embracing the season of blooming flowers, chirping birds, and beautiful weather. As Easter approaches, let’s celebrate the joy of new beginnings and cherish special moments with our loved ones. Happy Easter to you and your family!”

Are you looking for goodies to put in your loved one’s Easter basket this year?  Check out these ideas below.

  • Gourmet Treats: Include a selection of gourmet snacks such as chocolates, cookies, nuts, or dried fruits. Choose options that cater to any dietary restrictions or preferences.
  • Tea or Coffee: A variety of tea bags or gourmet coffee can be a delightful addition to the Easter basket. Consider including herbal teas or decaffeinated options for those who prefer them.
  • Books or Magazines: Choose books or magazines that align with the senior’s interests, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, puzzles, or hobbies. Large-print editions are ideal for seniors with vision impairments.
  • Personal Care Items: Include items like scented lotions, hand creams, lip balms, or bath bombs for a relaxing self-care experience. Opt for gentle products suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Cozy Accessories: Add comfort to their Easter basket with soft blankets, socks, or slippers. Look for items made from warm and breathable materials for extra comfort.
  • Assistive Devices: Consider practical gifts such as magnifying glasses, easy-grip kitchen utensils, or reachers to assist with daily activities. These items can enhance independence and make tasks easier.
  • Gardening Supplies: If the senior enjoys gardening, include items like gardening gloves, seeds, small indoor plants, or gardening tools suitable for their needs and abilities.
  • Sensory Stimulation: Incorporate items that engage the senses, such as essential oils or soothing music CDs. These can promote relaxation and sensory enjoyment.
  • Craft Kits: Provide creative outlets with craft kits or DIY projects tailored to their interests, such as painting supplies, knitting or crochet kits, or adult coloring books with colored pencils.
  • Technology Gadgets: Introduce them to technology with simple gadgets like e-readers, digital photo frames preloaded with family photos, or easy-to-use tablets for staying connected with loved ones.
