Dear Families, 

As we step into March, we are greeted by the promise of spring and the joy of longer days. With Daylight Savings Time just around the corner, we will soon enjoy more daylight in our evenings, giving us extra time to spend with loved ones and engage in outdoor activities.

Special Events: SPRING FORWARD INTO MARCH and GET READY TO FEAST FOR FAT TUESDAY at ‘THE FORT’! NHC Fort Sanders invites residents and families to come join the Life Enrichment Team with Intern, McKenzie Brooks, as she hosts the “Mardi Gras with McKenzie” Celebration Week starting with her craft activity “Masquerade Monday” on March 3rd at 2:00pm in which residents will make their own masks to wear to the “Mardi Party” on Tues., March 4th at 2:00pm in the dining room followed by Jazz Musician & Singer, Brendan Booher, who will be performing on Thurs., March 6th at 2:00pm. McKenzie will end her week of festivities with a Mardi Gras Bingo on Fri., March 7th at 2:00pm. The fun and feast doesn’t stop here; it’s just begun!! As March continues, help us celebrate St. Patrick and the ‘wearing of the green’ starting with our Irish themed “Paddy O’ Paintings” activity hosted by Kimberly Way with Caris Hospice on Tues., March 11th followed by our “Happy Go Lucky Hour” on Fri., March 14th at 2:00pm in the dining room. So please, crash one of our parties and celebrate March with us!

Special Thanks: NHC, Fort Sanders would like to send a special “shout out & thank you” to Life Enrichment Intern, Mia Lavi, and our NHC Residents for making and sending Valentine cards to our fellow friends in the Knoxville area. We appreciate your TLC and for taking the time/effort to share love with others in the community!

March is also National Nutrition Month, a perfect time to focus on healthy eating habits and overall wellness. Here are a few tips to help you celebrate: 

  1. Incorporate More Fruits and Vegetables: Aim to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables at each meal. 
  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and functioning optimally. 
  1. Plan Balanced Meals: Include a variety of foods from all food groups to ensure you’re getting a range of nutrients. 
  1. Get Creative in the Kitchen: Try new recipes and involve your family in meal preparation to make healthy eating fun and enjoyable.
