Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between “retirement or independent” apartments & “assisted living”?
Retirement or independent apartments are not licensed by the Department of Health & Senior Services. This offers more flexibility daily, however, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, dog walking service, etc., are available for an additional charge.
Assisted living is designed for the person whose medications must be monitored and administered, all following the physician’s orders. Three meals per day, snacks, assistance with bathing & dressing, and medication distribution are included in the daily charge.
How do “retirement” apartments differ from living in a “condo for those over 55”?
The difference is in the service package. While the condos may have “community rooms”, retirement communities have full time staff to provide a variety of activities 7 days a week…so there is someone to plan and carry out all the events and pay the entertainers. Our community has a person 24 hours a day to answer any questions & solve problems…whether it’s a clogged toilet, a burned-out light bulb, or not feeling well. Our staff will either solve the problem or get the help needed to solve the problem. You don’t have to rely on your neighbors or family…you’re independent!
Is it easier to sell a house with the senior still living in it?
Most will agree that the answer is “no”. Keeping a house in “show style” is very stressful for anyone, let alone a senior with years of accumulated items.
Is there access to Health Care?
Yes. The growing St Charles, MO area is serviced by St. Joseph Hospital and Barnes St. Peters Hospital. Thus, many specialists have opened offices in the area. In our Community, we have a Physician’s Office staffed with Gerontologists from St. Louis University Hospital, so they understand your needs at this time of your life. We have a Podiatrist here monthly. Lab & x-ray services can come right to your apartment, so you avoid waiting rooms! Three pharmacies deliver to our center. Our transportation department will make your doctor’s appointments and schedule your transportation.
Prevention is helpful to good health, so we have a Personal Trainer, daily exercise classes, a Massage Therapist, music & art programs, plus the key to good health…socialization! Our dining room can accommodate vegetarian preferences and sugar-free items are available if necessary. Access to a dietician is offered by NHC HealthCare next door.
When our residents get older, they may eventually need assistance with their medications. We do have 25 apartments licensed by the Department of Health & Senior Services as “Assisted Living Apartments.” While living in these apartments, we can store & monitor resident’s medications & consult with their physicians to keep them as healthy as possible.
Can I bring my pet?
Probably! Dogs must live on ground floors so they can enter & exit through the patio door. Cats must be indoor and can live on any floor. All pets must offer proof of current vaccinations.
