NHC Rehabilitation is proud to offer the Geriatric Clinical Residency Program. The program, APTA accredited since 2009, is committed to equipping Physical Therapists to be leaders in geriatric rehabilitation by developing advanced knowledge and skills in direct patient care, management of geriatric rehabilitation programs and teaching.
Graduates of the program will:
- Demonstrate advanced clinical skills in treating geriatric patients in a variety of practice locations including: Skilled Nursing Facilities, Long Term Care, Home Care, and Outpatient.
- Manage a geriatric rehab program in a cost effective manner as evidenced by efficiency and budget compliance.
- Contribute to the profession and to the geriatric specialty by teaching Physical Therapy students and practitioners.
- Be prepared to take the Geriatric Physical Therapy Specialty Certification Examination.
The residency program utilizes:
- Small group classroom work
- Guided independent study
- Continuing education workshops
- Mentoring by clinical faculty in a variety of settings where geriatric patients receive health care
- Opportunities to teach concepts related to geriatric Physical Therapy
While enrolled in the program, residents are employed by Professional Health Services, a division of NHC, and provide patient care at one or more of NHC’s owns or managed Skilled Nursing Facilities/Long Term Care centers, outpatient programs, home care programs, or locations that may also include acute care. Residents are eligible for NHC’s full-time benefit packages.
