Happy Thanksgiving from NHC

Special Events: As we are quickly approaching the holiday season, we want to share our special activities for November! On November 2nd at 2pm we will be baking and decorating Thanksgiving sugar cookies! We will be having Thanksgiving dessert early with our pie tasting on November 12th at 2pm. Our crafty sides will come out on November 13th at 2pm by making popsicle scarecrows! Mitch and John at the Jukebox will be joining us for live music on November 19th at 2:30pm – they are always a crowd favorite! We will celebrate our monthly birthday party on November 20th at 2pm. On a similar note, we want to wish one of our residents, Bill, a Happy 100th birthday and will be celebrating him on November 25th at 2:30pm. Be on the lookout for flyers around the facility addressing additional groups, scheduling changes, spontaneous events, and more! Lastly, we want to wish all of our residents, families, partners, volunteers, and friends a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Announcements for Families: Family and friends are always welcome in our activities, and we encourage you to join in on the fun with your loved ones. Our program is designed to stimulate and support your highest social, physical, and emotional functional levels while completing your therapy. Special Thanks: We want to give a shout out to our HABIT Pet Therapy volunteers, Bill and Anne, and their dog, Darby. Their weekly visits always bring smiles to our patients, residents, and even our staff! Thank you!

NHC Spiced Apple Cider Recipe  

Ingredients: 

  • 8 cups apple cider 
  • 2 cinnamon sticks 
  • 4 whole cloves 
  • 4 whole allspice berries 
  • 1 orange, sliced 
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional) 
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 

Instructions: 

  1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and orange slices. 
  2. If you prefer a sweeter cider, add the brown sugar.
  3. Stir in the ground nutmeg and ground ginger.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. 
  5. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. 
  6. Strain the cider to remove the spices and orange slices. 
  7. Serve the spiced apple cider warm and enjoy!
